Care properly for your Fireplace with the Right Chimney

Your chimney is what allows your stove to breath properly. When it starts to get clogged up with soot and creosote, it makes it harder for your stove to burn efficiently. This is due to air being unable to flow as freely as it should. The location of the chimney has a lot to do with performance as well.

Nordic Energy will help you choose the system that is best for your house today, and that will continue to perform at the same specifications ten years from now.

Choose from a variety of venting options suitable for:

  • Wood fireplaces and stoves
  • Pellet stoves and fireplaces
  • Natural gas and propane stoves and inserts

Chimney Installation

Having a chimney properly installed is vital. A few of the basics which you should know to be sure you’re getting what is required include:

  • Ideally a wood chimney should go up inside the building. This is not always possible, if it is an option, it performs the best
  • The vent’s end must extend at least 3 feet above its contact point with the roof and be at least 2 feet higher than any wall roof or adjacent building within 10 feet of the chimney itself
  • You can only vent one solid fuel burning appliance per flue pipe
  • Thoroughly check and clean a masonry chimney before installing a liner
  • Do not extend a liner more than 8 inches above the masonry of the chimney
  • There must be a rain cap on top of the chimney. A spark screen may also be required in your area

Those are some of the basics. Speak with our staff for more information.

Some of the most common products used in a chimney are appliance connectors, wall or ceiling pass throughs, supports, roof flashings, and terminations or rain caps.
