Types of Pellet Appliances
Fireplace Inserts
Pellet inserts are placed into existing fireplaces. This is a useful option for homes that already have a fireplace but are either looking for something more decorative fireplace or a different type of heat generation. The existing fireplace MUST be code compliant. If you wish to have the fireplace look in a pellet burning appliance, a built in heater kit can be used with normal framing to make a pellet fireplace much like a zero clearance fireplace.
Freestanding Stove
Freestanding pellet stoves are most common. The venting is not as demanding as a wood stove, but a similar venting system is always best for maximum draft. A pellet stove will give constant heat output with minimal cost. It is a good alternative to heating with non-renewable fuels such as oil and propane, and less expensive than heating with electricity.
