NATURAL GAS FIREPLACE INSERT SUDBURY
Whether you are replacing an old wood burning fireplace insert or starting from scratch in a masonry fireplace, a gas model may be your best choice for convenience and ease of maintenance. This is due to how easy it is to start your fire up and keep the flame going.
How it Works
A gas insert is fueled by either natural gas or propane. Either of these gases will be fed by a gas line to the fire chamber where they are ignited with the push of a button. The amount of heat the fire gives off is controlled by a knob which increases or decreases the amount of gas fed to the fire. Most models feature a flame reduction of up to 50%.
NATURAL VS. PROPANE
The biggest differences are:
- Transportation methods to your fireplace
- Environmental impact
Natural gas is usually conveniently available in metropolitan areas by a gas line that is fed into your house. This is because natural gas is a popular choice for heating water, fueling furnaces and cooking food on gas top stoves.
Propane is commonly delivered to your home by delivery truck and stored in outdoor tanks. For remote areas with higher consumption needs and no truck access, portable tanks usually not exceeding 100 lbs are transported from a refilling station.
Both options are excellent clean burning decisions with minimal harmful emissions or toxins during use. Neither will produce smoke that can add to pollution and smog, and neither will produce ash that has to be cleaned up and disposed of.
Both styles of unit are the same cost at initial purchase. The variable price wise is in the long run with the price of fuel. Since natural gas is delivered via pipes that are already connected to your home, it is often a cheaper choice fuel.
